The MossBack Difference
At MossBack, we’re transparent about the safe and sustainable materials used in our habitats. Our commitment is to create products that are not only durable and effective but also environmentally friendly. We’re always striving to enhance our manufacturing process, packaging, and the use of recycled Rigid PVC. Our habitats are carefully crafted using a combination of Rigid PVC for the limbs and trunks, and HDPE for the bases and shade tops, ensuring long-lasting quality while prioritizing the health of our ecosystems.
To prevent the unnecessary transport of waste plastic, we take great care to meticulously clean all Rigid PVC remnants from our products before packaging. These remnants are returned to our PVC supplier for recycling, ensuring a zero-waste process. Additionally, our products are designed to be long-lasting and will not mechanically break down in water, further supporting our commitment to sustainability.
Not all PVC or HDPE is the same, and it’s important to understand the key difference between Rigid PVC and Soft PVC. A major distinction lies in the use of phthalates (plasticizers) found in flexible plastics. Since MossBack Fish Habitat uses Rigid PVC, there’s no need for phthalates, which are unnecessary for rigid products. Research has shown that Rigid PVC does not leach harmful chemicals such as lead, BPA, cadmium, or other plasticizers, as these are neither part of its manufacturing process nor its formulation. As a result, there is no evidence linking phthalates to MossBack Fish Habitat in aquatic environments.
Our trunks and limbs are crafted from the same Rigid PVC material used in drinking water pipes, ensuring safety and durability. Additionally, our products contain no biocides and support the quick growth of periphyton on all surfaces. The HDPE used in our Bases and Shade Tops is nonfluorinated, free from phthalates, heavy metals, BPA, or PFAs.
MossBack Fish Habitat products exceed all PROP 65 requirements. After our annual review, we can confidently state that our products do not require the PROP 65 warning.
At MossBack Fish Habitat, we’re deeply committed to sustainability. Not only do we use recycled Rigid PVC, but we also recycle all Rigid PVC and HDPE remnants by sending them back to our suppliers for further recycling, achieving a zero-waste process. You can trust MossBack to remain conscious of our manufacturing practices, ensuring that we contribute to maintaining healthy and sustainable natural habitats.
As a small family owned business, we like to support other local businesses, but most importantly for our customers, this allows us to have continual quality control of our products. We manufacture our products from the ground up, so we know our sources and have quality control over WHAT our product is made of as well as HOW it is made to ensure safety and consistency.
The Differences Add Up
MossBack Fish Habitat offers the ONLY limb on the market custom designed for a purpose: to hold more sediment and grow more periphyton. The SHAPE, TEXTURE and SIZE of MossBack’s limbs provide the greatest amount of density for periphyton to grow over time and become “living shade” for your fish! No other limb compares to MossBack!
